Indianapolis, Ind.–With the team’s top rollers having off performances, Amber Ovel (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management) stepped to the forefront to guide the William Penn women’s bowling team at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn, which is ranked #15 in collegebowling.com’s rating, finished 11th out of 27 teams with 7,295 pins in six regular games and 15 Baker rounds. Ancilla CC (Ind.) won the team crown with 8,006 pins.

Megan Hefflin of Ancilla was the field’s best individual with a 192.2 average (1,153 pins), while Ovel was in the mix as well. The senior totaled 1,124 pins (high of 225) to take seventh out of 200 student-athletes at 187.3.

Kayla Gifford (Jr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology) joined Ovel by also starting all six games, averaging 162.8 pins during individual action.

Bailey Palmer (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Biology) was next at 147.0 in five rounds, while Nicole Mottier (So., Madison, Wis., Computer Science) knocked down 154.8 pins over the duration of four games.

Nicole Craft (Jr., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education), at 162.3, and Jade Klinefelter (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), at 148.0, each competed in three games, while Kaylee Gerken (Sr., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education) averaged 147.0 in a pair of efforts.

Jaelynn Klein (Fr., Muscatine, Iowa, Communications) recorded 123 pins in her lone start.

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Lawrence and Topeka, Kan. Saturday and Sunday, November 3-4 to compete in the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge.
