Ottumwa Radio Control Flyers visit Penn Central Mall

Dennis Reid was using center court at Penn Central Mall to catch up on some RC flying while also demonstrating to those who watched the aircraft's capabilities
Center court at Penn Central Mall in Oskaloosa played host as a small airport Saturday afternoon. The members of Ottumwa Radio Control Flyers club were on hand to demonstrate radio controlled aircraft and their club.
Dennis Reid was on hand flying a small electric powered RC aircraft. Reid has been a member of the club for 3 years now. Reid says the club flies aircraft that have up to 100 inch wingspan all the way down to a 12 inch wingspan.
The club does have a trainer aircraft available for those that would be interested in the hobby, but have little experience actually using an RC aircraft. The trainer is usually available on Monday nights during the summer.
You can also visit them at their field most weekends during the nice weather that comes with spring and summer. Their field is located just South of the Ottumwa Industrial Airport.
The club requires that you also join the AMA or Academy of Model Aeronautics that helps with liability insurance and also includes a magazine subscription to help keep you up to date on the hobby.
If your interested in joining, or would like more information, you can visit their website at http://www.rchawk.com/ or call their current president Gary Van Dyke at 641-667-3017.
