“Well just ran into a great team and their ability to spread the field and make plays in the open field is very hard for us to stop. I was disappointed how we were unable to run the ball early. I thought that was key. We did get a stop or two early, we were just unable to run the clock and grind the ball and that’s how you keep a good quarterback off the field is to control the football and get stops timely and control the clock and we were unable to do that,” Coach Mark Schilb said after the game.
Schilb also talked about the impact on the team of injuries from last week’s game and throughout the season. “We’re not about excuses. We did have some key guys out as everybody knows, but next man in’s been our motto and even tonight, lost quite a few guys.” Schilb continued. “Never had a season like this, so many injuries. I tell you what, it’s just been unreal with all the way back to week one with knee sprains and shoulders and you know that tells me a little bit coincidence but we got to get stronger in the weight room. That’s a big thing and that will be a big push this winter.”
Schilb also gave his reaction to this season and what he is looking forward to next fall. “Our strength and conditioning program will continue. I’ll get a chance to be with these guys through the winter and the spring and also the summer, and just continue to build on what we’ve established. This is a sour way to go out on a night like this, but they’re a great team. We just want to build on it, get better. We’ll take a look at what we need to as a staff, as far as technically and go to clinics and see if we can get better.”
