Osky Harriers compete at Pella
Oskaloosa High School’s cross country team competed Saturday in what was deemed a perfect day to run. After suffering from hot and muggy running conditions at Southeast Polk earlier in the week, the Indians showed some serious improvement. “It was a great running day, weather wise and the kids worked really hard this week. I was impressed with our improvement in the times. Every runner ran faster than they did on Tuesday.” said Indians Coach Keith Comfort. In the girls varsity race, the team finished 15th in the 16 team field scoring 398 points. “Brooke VanHouweling again had the top girls finish with a 46th place finish in a time of 17:15, with Kelsie Roquet and Stephanie Smith cracking the 19 minute barrier and Leslie Roquet breaking the 20 minute barrier.” said Comfort. “There were some very good teams competing here and I was very happy with our improvement today” he also said.
In the girls JV race, the team finished 13th with 373 points. “Angela Hyland was the top girls finisher with a time of 20:12 good for 98th place. Amanda Stefanik, Brooke Beers, Amy Sarver, Mirjana Vidakovic and Ginny Lane also competed” Comfort said.
In the boys varsity race, the Indians ran to a 15th place finish in the 16 team field scoring 451 points. “Tyler Wallen was the top finisher for the Indians with an 80th place finish running a time of 20:42. Alex Hyland was close behind running 21:02.” Comfort said. ” Each of the boys ran much better times today showing improvement. We obviously have a ways to go to be competitive this year, but I expect that these guys will continue to work hard at practice and will see better results as the season progresses. I was happy with what I observed today.” he also said.
In the boys JV race Senior Charlie Comfort and Junior Zach McCombs ran but were not able to score as a team due to a lack of the minimum number of runners needed to score. Both runners improved their times at this meet by 3 minutes.
The Indians will run next at Grinnell this Tuesday beginning at 4:30pm.
