Oskaloosa Wrestling Sweeps Van Meter Quad, Prepares for Districts

The Oskaloosa Indians wrestling team continued their dominant season with an impressive showing at the Van Meter Quad, securing victories over Knoxville, Webster City, and Van Meter. The Indians showcased their depth and talent throughout the meet, winning all three duals and gaining valuable momentum heading into the district tournament on February 15.

Oskaloosa 50, Webster City 29

The Indians started the night with a strong performance against Webster City, winning by a 50-29 team score. Sam Nelson (120 lbs.) set the tone early with a 19-second pin over his opponent, followed by Ty Lorentzen (126 lbs.), who dominated with a 15-0 technical fall.

Reid Luck (138 lbs.) and Colton Shaffer (144 lbs.) continued the trend, both securing first-period pins to extend Osky’s lead. The heavyweight match also belonged to Oskaloosa, as Kyron Smith (285 lbs.) finished with a pin at 4:35.

Oskaloosa 45, Knoxville 24

The Indians kept rolling with a 45-24 victory over Knoxville. Ty Lorentzen (126 lbs.) picked up a lightning-fast pin in just 23 seconds, while Colton Shaffer (144 lbs.) followed up with another quick fall at 47 seconds.

Reid Luck (138 lbs.) also delivered, pinning his opponent in 2:50, while Matthew Phillips (157 lbs.) added another first-period fall (1:25) to help Osky take control. Parker Jordan (215 lbs.) and Brock Beerbower (175 lbs.) won by forfeit to seal the win.

Oskaloosa 46, Van Meter 32

Oskaloosa capped off the night with a hard-fought win against host Van Meter, 46-32. Matthew Phillips (157 lbs.) delivered a dominant 21-6 technical fall, while Brock Beerbower (175 lbs.) pinned his opponent in just 1:05.

Other standout performances included Reid Luck (138 lbs.), who recorded a pin in 1:35, and Trevin Griffin (150 lbs.), who battled to a fall in 4:32. Kyron Smith (285 lbs.) also contributed with an 18-2 technical fall victory.

Looking Ahead

With three strong wins at Van Meter, Oskaloosa now turns its attention to the district tournament on February 15, where they will look to qualify wrestlers for the state tournament.
