The 2024 Oskaloosa Farmers Market is underway and offering fresh locally grown foods and more.

The Oskaloosa Vendor & Farmers Market is now open and welcoming visitors every Saturday and Tuesday. Located at the Mahaska County Courthouse at 106 S 1st St, Oskaloosa, IA 52577, the market promises a delightful array of local goods and produce.

“Come shop the Oskaloosa Vendor & Farmers Market! Our vendors have an amazing selection for everyone, including eggs, produce, meat, honey, baked goods, freeze dried candy, soaps, lotions, candles, balms, flowers, toys, jewelry, clothes and more!” says the market’s promotional flyer. The market operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting May 18th, 2024, and every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. starting May 28th, 2024.

The market prides itself on its commitment to local vendors and handmade products. “Our market is 100% local vendors with handmade & homegrown products!” the flyer declares. This emphasis on local sourcing not only ensures fresh and high-quality products but also supports the local economy.

Some of the highlighted benefits to shopping at a local farmers market are, “Buying local fruits and vegetables and meat and eggs also supports and stimulates your local economy because the dollars are going to stay local. People that are local farmers are probably also spending their money local after you make that purchase from them,” Ashley Wenke. She also mentioned the freshness and superior quality of the produce available, such as asparagus picked just the day before, compared to those found in grocery stores.

The market features a variety of new and returning vendors. “We’ve got quite a few new vendors interested in showing up that are not quite at full production yet. Over across from me, we’ve got Savage Gardens. They actually have a ton of hot sauces and salsas and spice rubs. So that’s a super exciting new vendor,” added Wenke. Alongside these, the market continues to offer a diverse range of home decor, plants, vegetables, meat, and eggs. A baker who recently joined sold out of poundcake and bars early, indicating the high demand and popularity of the offerings.
