Oskaloosa Schools announce new high school PE Teacher/Football Coach
OSKALOOSA- The Physical Education and Head Football Coaching position at Oskaloosa Community School District has been filled. Pending approval at the Oskaloosa Community School District School Board meeting on March 8, 2011, Mr. Mark Schilb will become the next Physical Education Instructor and Head Football Coach for the 2011-12 school year.
Mr. Schilb has thirteen years of teaching and coaching experience in public education. He has taught physical education at all levels and most recently at Sigourney Community Schools where he is experienced in the One to One Laptop Initiative program.
Mr. Schilb worked at Graceland University as the Associate Director of LEAD Program (Leadership, Education and Development), which included teaching leadership classes and helped organize, plan, and direct leadership activities on campus. Mr. Schilb is a graduate of Clarinda High School and Graceland University where he played quarterback and ran track.
Coach Schilb’s experience in coaching started in Midland, Texas where he was assistant football coach and assistant power lifting Coach. He became the head football coach at South Harrison R-2 School in Bethany, Missouri where he was twice named St. Joes Newspress Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000 while leading them to two consecutive Class 1-A state semi finals. South Harrison had not been to the football playoffs since 1976.
Coach Schilb was hired at Perry, Iowa in 2001 and led the Blue Jays to their first playoff appearance (2002) since 1980. He then coached at Raytown, Missouri where he led the team to the Suburban Small Six Conference Championship. The past three years he has been head football coach at Sigourney-Keota. This past year Sigourney-Keota team made the quarterfinals and finished the season at 11-1. He was named Football Coaches Association 1A/2A Regional Coach of the Year and 2A District 6 Coach of the Year.
Mark Schilb is married. His wife, of 14 years, Krista, is a 2nd grade teacher in Keota. They have three children, Erin (11), Reid (7) and Macy (4). He was born and raised in Clarinda, Iowa where he played football, basketball, track and baseball. We are excited to have Mr. Mark Schilb as a Physical Education teacher and the new Head Football Coach at Oskaloosa Community Schools.
Mr. Schilb replaces Coach Darrell Schumacher who is retiring at the end of the school year.
