Oskaloosa, IA – November 17, 2023 – A late-night police operation in Oskaloosa led to the apprehension of a local man, following a response to reports of potential car burglaries. Shane Followill, 35, of Oskaloosa, was taken into custody after a brief confrontation with law enforcement officers.

At around 1:20 a.m. on November 17, officers from the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of N E Street and K Avenue W. The dispatch was in response to reports suggesting possible car burglaries in the area. During the course of their investigation, officers encountered a male individual, later identified as Shane Followill, riding a bicycle in the area.

Upon being ordered to stop by the officers, Followill allegedly attempted to flee the scene. A subsequent chase ensued, during which Followill is accused of pointing what appeared to be an air pistol at one of the pursuing officers. The police resorted to using a Taser and physically tackled Followill to bring him into custody after what was described as a brief struggle.

Followill now faces several charges, including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of interference with official acts — one involving the alleged use of a weapon and the other resulting in bodily injury. Additionally, he was arrested on a pre-existing warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

The Oskaloosa Police Department was supported in this incident by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, Mahaska Health Ambulance, and the Mahaska County 911 Center.

It is important to note that an arrest and criminal charges are not indicative of guilt. The legal principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty in a court of law’ applies, and the charges against Followill are merely accusations at this stage. The investigation into the incident continues, and further details may emerge as the case progresses through the legal system.
