Oskaloosa High School becomes technologically advanced

Oskaloosa High School has taken several steps to become more technologically advanced. In recent weeks, the staff at Oskaloosa High School have implemented several new policies relating to technology.

One of the biggest changes has been in the cell phone policy. The new policy allows for students to use their cell phones during passing time, lunch time, before school and after school. It also allows for teachers to incorporate the cell phone into the class room environment. In previous years, students were not allowed to use cell phones anywhere on the school campus.

Currently, no major problems with the cell phones have been reported. Violators of the policy will receive several punishments. On the 1st offense, the violator will have their cell phone confiscated by the teacher. On the 2nd and 3rd offenses, the violator will have their phone taken to the office. Parents are allowed to pick it up at the end of the day. On the 4th and all subsequent violations, the phone is confiscated for three days.

Another initiative the school is taking is the use of smart board technologies. The software was given to the school through a grant from Microsoft. The board allows for anything a teacher is working on, on their laptop, to be projected onto the board. When projected onto the board, the board becomes a touch screen allowing for anything to be moved on the board.

One final thing the school has done to become more technological is the use of student e-mail accounts through the school. Students have been given an e-mail that would be similar to one of a teacher. The purpose of these e-mail accounts are for students to be able to e-mail their teachers in the event that they have to miss school because of sickness or other causes. Students have been instructed on the proper use of these and understand the consequences of misuse of these.
