Oskaloosa Girls Wrestling Earns Three Medals at Pella Invitational

The Oskaloosa girls wrestling team competed Saturday at the Pella Girls Invitational and came home with three medal finishes despite a small lineup. The Indians had only four wrestlers available due to injuries and sickness but still posted strong results.

Oskaloosa finished the day with a first-place, second-place, and third-place finish.

Mia Luck led the way for the Indians by winning the championship at 135 pounds. Luck went undefeated on the day, earning four wins by fall to claim first place and score 30 team points.

At 140 pounds, Zayva Claussen advanced to the finals and finished second. Claussen won two matches by fall before dropping the championship bout, scoring 22 team points.

Alyssa Sheets placed third at 105 pounds after a strong tournament. Sheets earned four wins, including three by fall, and scored 21.5 team points for Oskaloosa.

Lilly Evans also competed at 140 pounds. Evans gained tournament experience while battling through the bracket but did not place.

Despite having a limited roster, the Indians were able to compete well against a strong field and continue to gain momentum late in the season.

The Oskaloosa girls will wrestle next on January 30 when they travel to Iowa City for their regional tournament.
