Oskaloosa Girl Scout Just Dessert Auction
It was a sweet day at Penn Central Mall! The Oskaloosa Girl Scouts held a Just Dessert Auction to help raise funds to defray the cost of summer camp for several girls. Each girl had the opportunity to make a cake and enter it into one of five categories. The creativity that was shown was awesome for the ugliest, yummiest, most patriotic, best girl scout theme, and the craziest. There were a total of 55 entries as lots of families and friends joined in on the fun of making desserts for the auction and the Buy It Now table. The cakes were brought into the mall and everyone was able to view and select their favorites as the cakes were being judged.
Judges for the event were AJ Hodgeman from CRI, Denny Kirby owner of Limo 4 U and an Oskaloosa School bus driver and Wanda Armstrong a retired Girl Scout Trainer from Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa. AJ got in on the action has he made a cake, decorated it and allowed everyone to sample his hard work. You will have to keep your eyes open for the newest episode of One Day Getaway if you missed the event. We were happy to have AJ spend the day with us and take part in our activities. While the judging was going on there were several events for the kids to do. Tom the Balloon Man was putting smiles on all the kids faces with all shapes and sizes of balloons. He was a popular individual as the line stretched across center court. Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls Roller Derby team was on hand to help with all the face painting, food table and frozen t-shirt contest.
The auction kicked off at one with the help of Donnie, Mike and Chris from Sinnif Auction Service. They helped make it a fun, fast paced event with several bidding wars taking place. Several families and friends scrambled to purchase the cake of their choice. There were lots of smiles and several great laughs! When the event came to a close several individuals returned their cakes back to the girl who made it. It was a very successful day as over $1800 was raised to provided camperships for the Oskaloosa girl scouts. We would like to thank everyone who made made a dessert, donated their time or purchased a sweet dessert.
