Oskaloosa Farmers’ Market underway

Farm Fresh Food

Oskaloosa, Iowa- As the spring ends and summer rapidly approaches, the Oskaloosa square will become a bustling marketplace. At this time of the year, the square is transformed into the market for the Oskaloosa Farmers’ Market. The market always seems to attract a large crowd each week. Yesterday was no different. I had a chance to stop by the market yesterday and speak with residents.

Marion Terpstra of New Sharon said that he was not sure how this year would end up, turnout wise. “It’s hard to say.” He went on to say “[We] hope for a good turnout. There’s a lot of good produce here. We got room for a lot of expansion. We need a lot more customers and a lot of us you know could bring a lot more stuff. We just bring what we think we can sell but we can handle two to three times the customers probably.”

One local customer said that she liked the Famer’s Market. Jen Cook of Oskaloosa said “First of all its fresh from the garden.” Cook also said that it was nice to know exactly where it was coming from before she bought vegetables.

This year’s Farmers’ Market will be held each Tuesday from 4 PM to 6 PM on the East side of the Square as well as at the Corner of South D Street and 1st Ave West each Saturday morning from 8 AM to 11AM. Farmers’ Market will run until October 15th.
