Oskaloosa Competes At Home Meet

The Oskaloosa Indian Boy’s Swim team hosted their home swim meet Thursday night in a double dual match-up against the Williamsburg Raiders and the Keokuk Chiefs. The boys came away with 2 wins on the night as they outscored the Raiders 61-51 in a close battle and they beat the Chiefs as well. During the first break, the Indians also honored their senior swimmers this year as they took the walk around the pool with their parents while the Juniors gave them their senior gifts. The first senior was Lucca Claro who is a Foreign exchange student from Brazil staying with the Hartl family and the second senior was Joshua Hartl, and they were both escorted by his parents Wilhelm and Karen Hartl. The last senior was 4-year letter winner, Jarod Miller and he was escorted by his parents, Todd and Amy Miller.
When the meet started the boys wasted no time showing how hard they have been working as the team of Owen Gordon, Carson Breon, Jarod Miller, and Jack Dawson took first place in the 200 Medley Relay by swimming a time of 1:49.97. The second group of Keygan Roberts, Andrew Scholes, Lucca Claro, and Joshua Hartl brought home the third-place finish as they swam a time of 2:17.46. Both teams’ times were new personal bests.
Colin Fiechtner was next up for the Indians as he earned a first-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 2:11.38. Freshman, Landon Hunolt also swam the 200 Free for the first time and he swam a 2:36.90 for the Indians.
200 Individual Medley was the next race and Carson Breon brought home a second-place finish in a time of 2:13.99, which was a new personal best for him.
The 50 Free was next and Oskaloosa sent 4 swimmers to compete. Jack Dawson, in his first race back from an injury, was able to swim a 24.77 to take the top spot for the Indians. Aaron Scholes finished next for the Indians in a time of 29.97 which was a new personal best. The next swimmers were Andrew Scholes with a time of 34.63 and Trae Jarvis with a 37.22 and a new personal best.
In the 100 Fly, it turned out to be a fast race as all the swimmers were able to swim under a minute with Jarod Miller finishing 4th in a time of 59.29 for the Indians.
Owen Gordon took off and won the 100 Free Event in a time of 54.23 and was followed closely by Colin Fiechtner who was second in the race with a time of 57.01 and both swimmers had personal best times. Josh Hartl was next for the Indians in the 100 Free Event with a time of 1:10.60 and a personal best. Trae Jarvis finished strong behind him with another personal best in a time of 1:23.87.
The 500 Free was next, and Oskaloosa sent Freshman Keygan Roberts to swim the event for his first time, as he posted a time of 6:48.37, and ended with a strong finish to earn a second-place finish for the Indians.
The 200 Free Relay was next, and Oskaloosa sent 2 teams to compete, However, the first team left the blocks early and was DQ, but the second team of Lucca Claro, Joshua Hartl, Aaron Scholes, and Landon Hunolt was able to swim a personal best time of 1:59.98 and were able to take home the second place finish for the Indians.
After a short intermission, Owen Gordon jumped in the pool and swam a personal best time of 1:01.52 in the 100 Backstroke event, to take home a second-place finish for the Indians.
The Indians sent three swimmers to the 100 Breaststroke race as Jarod Miller brought home the first-place finish with a personal best time of 1:12.77. He was followed by Aaron Scholes who earned the second-place finish in a time 1:25.82 and Andrew Scholes had a personal best time of 1:29.76 to round out the Indian swimmers.
Oskaloosa finished in style as the 400 Relay team of Owen Gordon, Colin Fiechtner, Keygan Roberts, and Carson Breon finished in a time of 3:58.82 to take home the first place and the team of Lucca Claro, Joshua, Hartl, Trae Jarvis, and Landon Hunolt were able to take home the third place finish in a time of 4:58.87.
Next up for the Indians is the Iowa City Invitational on Saturday and the final meet before Christmas break will be at Williamsburg on Tuesday.
