Oskaloosa City Council repeals requirement of sprinkler systems in new homes
The Oskaloosa City Council, in a 6-1 vote, has repealed a requirement to require the installment of sprinkler systems into all new townhouses and single and double family homes. Councilwoman Blomgren was the only Council member to vote in favor of the systems. The move comes after much discussion and public comment on the matter. All of those who spoke about the systems were against them. Since the city council passed the requirement in 2009, little discussion had occurred on the matter. It was not until earlier this year when the requirement took affect that members of the public and the city council began expressing concerns about the requirement. In other action, the city council:
- Approved the request for an additional street closure during the June 17th Friday after Five event
- Approved a resolution scheduling a public hearing on the rezoning of a property at 1510 Edmundson Drive
- Approved the site plan for the Rotary Club trail head project located at 101 Gateway Drive
- Approved a resolution setting the June 20th City Council meeting as a public hearing on the annexation of 373.37 acres of land located North of the Oskaloosa Elementary School
- Approved the site plan for the Oskaloosa Public Library Reading Garden
- Received a report from the City Manager on the City of Oskaloosa Strategic Goals
The next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council will be on June 6th at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers.
