Oskaloosa City Council approves 1st reading of nuisance ordinance

Oskaloosa Iowa City Council Chambers

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session Monday. In what was a near record time meeting, the council considered several different items one of them being an ordinance establishing an ordinance for “nuisance parties.” Chief of Police Jake McGee said that the ordinance was the result of being called to several locations on a regular basis.

Only one Council Member expressed opposition to the ordinance. Council Member Jimenez expressed opposition to it because he felt the issue should have gone through the Public Safety Committee to study the issue a bit before going to the full Council. In the end, the Council passed the 1st reading of this ordinance on a 6-1 vote with Council Member Jimenez voting No. In other action, the council:

  • Approved (7-0) the second reading of an ordinance modifying the current voting wards.
  • Approved (7-0) a resolution scheduling a public hearing for the purpose of levying special assessment against home owners for lawn mowing infractions.
  • Approved (7-0) pay request number four from Cornerstone Paving for the Northwest Sanitary Sewer Project.

The next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council will be on July 18th at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers.
