Oskaloosa City Council- 11-21-11
Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session Monday evening with Mayor David Krutzfeldt presiding. During public comments, the Council heard from Jo Ford. Ford spoke to city council regarding the previous streetscape project and the possibility of a 2nd phase of the streetscape project. Ford presented the Mayor and the Council with a petition from property owners in the downtown area.
The next item on the agenda was to approve the appointment of several individuals to the Mahaska County Solid Waste Management Commission and the Ad-Hoc Recycling Committee. Aarong Ver Steeg, Janet VanderBeek, and Wayne Hook all submitted applications for reappointment to the Solid Waste Commission. In addition, Ver Steeg and Hook were willing to accept reappointment to the Ad-Hoc recycling committee. The Council approved the appointments unanimously.
Next on the agenda was to approve a resolution levying special assessment against property owners for weed cutting violations. Three property owners were in violation of the city code for weed cutting violations. Nobody spoke regarding this item during the public hearing, which was set at the October 17th City Council meeting.
The next item for consideration was a resolution to waive the preliminary plat and approve the final plat for Seemann Addition. The Board of Adjustment and the Planning and Zoning Commission both considered this item at their previous meetings and both unanimously approved the addition. The Council approved the resolution unanimously.
The next item was the approval of the revised site plan for Tuscany Village. The issue of sidewalks again came up with this project. It was last debated at the Planning and Zoning Commission. Several Council members questioned if requiring the owner to place a sidewalk was fair. It was noted that the sidewalk would not connect to any other sidewalk. After more discussion, the Council voted unanimously to approve the site plan.
The next item for consideration was the issue of the William Penn Student Dormitory Site Plan. This also was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission at their last meeting. The Council approved the site plan unanimously.
The next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council will be on December 5th at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers
