The Business after Hours at the Mahaska County YMCA proved to be informative and an outstanding social event for the community

The YMCA played host to the Oskaloosa Community at a ‘Business After Hours’. The event brought people, interested in the Y, in for a tour and some refreshments, while they caught up on all the new things going on at the YMCA.

Along with the tours, there were refreshments served by Sodexo of William Penn. the food included asparagus wrapped with pseudo and an herbed cream cheese to hold the meat to the stalks of asparagus. Also served was Korean Barbecued chicken wings, and to finish it off was a spinach dip in a vegetable bread bowl with crackers on the side.

Sodexo does catering using William Penn facilities as well as locations off campus. You can call Jeff Halverson, General Manager, for further details on how they could be of assistance.

Dawn Collins, executive director of Oskaloosa’s YMCA, was busy showing off the facility to everyone interested in learning more about all the different services they have to offer.

Collins, who has made changes, says that she is seeing an increase in memberships to the Y. “We try to do a lot to educate people on the importance of our health and wellness.” Collins said of one of the main focuses of the Y.

The Y’s current facility was dedicated in October of 1969, on the 125th Anniversary of Mahaska County, and continues it’s strong ties to the local community.
