OHS Girls Track Has Gutsy Performance At Pella
Guts would be my word for the night for this team. With only 17 girls competing, some girls tripled, and one even quadrupled in running events, helping the team score as many points as possible.
Top finishers were: Ava VandeWall in the high jump with a 2nd place finish, and two 3rd place finishes for Emma Kelderman in the high jump and the 400 hurdles
There were 3 personal records set: Sophia Dykstra in the shot put, Sierra Worthington in the disc and Hannah Flaherty in the 100 m dash along with a season best in the 4×800 relay (Leah Wilcox, Veronica Bolibaugh, Anniston McDougall and Marleigh Denburger), which is an event that we didn’t run that much this year due to our numbers.
Highlights-
Lauren Coon competed in four running events tonight, racing more than 3 miles!!! And finished the night with a smile on her face. Ava and Emma are both looking strong in the high jump with the wind causing some issues tonight.
In the 400 m hurdle race, with less than a second between 1st and 3rd place, which will be a great race to watch at districts.
We are again so proud of the effort that these girls are putting out there on the track, competing against teams with double or even triple the number of athletes.
The rest of the season:
Thursday the girls will travel to Norwalk for a quad meet
Monday the 7th, we have a district tune-up meet at Pella
Thursday the 10th, we’re back in Pella for the district meet
The 17th-19th is the state track & field meet at Drake.
