Numerous Top Tens at Cornell Meet
Mount Vernon–Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS) helped the William Penn women’s track and field team break two more marks as the navy and gold competed at the Hilltop Invitational hosted by Cornell Friday and Saturday.
Samura broke her own 200-meter dash record with a second-place time of 26.69 seconds and was a member of the 4×400-meter relay squad that broke their own time with a finish of 4:09.03.
Samura received runner-up honors in the 400-meter dash as well with a time of 1:01.69. Megan McDonough (Fr., Ottumwa, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) joined her with a silver, doing so in the long jump at 15-9.5.
Bronzes were brought home by Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS) in the 200 (27.14 seconds) and Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46 seconds).
Swinney also placed fifth in the 60-meter dash in 8.17 seconds, only 0.02 seconds off the program record.
Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS) collected a pair of top tens as well, being clocked at 8.37 seconds in the 60 (7th) and 27.90 seconds in the 200 (8th).
Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS) topped the rest of the list, finishing fifth in the 400 at 1:02.33, while the 4×8 was also fifth at 8:31.25. Amanda Wakelin (Fr., Ottumwa, Davis County HS) took seventh in the long jump at 14-9.75.
Next: William Penn travels to Sterling, Ill. next Saturday to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.
