The Second Floyd White Memorial Golf Tournament participants teed off with beautiful weather on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Edmundson Golf Course. Fourteen four-person teams participated, many of them friends and relatives of the late Floyd White, and his wife, Margaret. The proceeds from the tournament, currently at $2,730.00, will all be donated to the Mahaska County Agency on Aging for Senior Center fundraising, events, marketing, and interns, honoring Margaret White’s long time commitment to the Center as a board member and treasurer.
“I want to thank each of you for coming out today to remember Floyd and to support the Senior Center as it provides meals, events, and a safe facility for senior citizens to meet,” said Margaret White as the golfers headed out to start the tournament. “Each and every sponsor, donor, and golfer helps make this a special day.”
Silver sponsors for this year’s event included Carolyn White Hock & family and Oskaloosa Food Products. Bronze sponsors included Ameriprise-Ken Seeman, the Lubas Family, Loretta McCormick & family, QQGIS, Fatwood Design, Mahaska Drug, Oskaloosa Vision Center, Daryl Sytsma Construction, Larry & Helen White, and John Ziccardi.
A number of organizations contributed prizes, including Mahaska Drug, KBOE, Smokey Row, Pizza Ranch, Jaarsma Bakery, Breadeaux Pizza, Ford’s Pub & Grill, Fins ‘n Things, Hy-Vee, Casey’s, Family Video, Hunters, Chuong Garden, Eddyville Lumber, Book Vault, Antique Peddler, Mahaska Bottling, Stam’s Greenhouse, Malcom Lumber, Sherwin Williams, Fareway, Penn Central Eye Clinic, and Heil Insurance. Additional prizes were donated in flights and special contests by Matt Sherlock at the Edmundson Golf Course (see end of article).
In addition, serious – and fun – trophies were donated for the second year by Louis Hubert III, a nephew of Floyd White. Furthermore, cash donations were made by Steve White, Guy Vander Linden, Richard Di Bacco, Bob & Ruth Walton, Brenda Duree-Krogh, and Veronica Grim.
The next event hosted by the MCAA will be the “End of the Summer Cookout” with a silent auction. This year the Board is trying something new after hosting two spaghetti dinners, and the silent auction will present ‘theme’ baskets, to be announced as they are donated. Watch for more details!
