Maxine Strunk, 93, of Holiday, Florida, and formerly of Fremont, Iowa entered into eternal rest, Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Southern Pines Rehabilitation Center in New Port Richey, Florida.

Maxine was born Monday, May 26, 1919 at Farson, Iowa the daughter of Alva and Lucy Springer Steele. She graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1936. On November 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Perl Strunk in Unionville, Missouri, he died on June 24, 1989. Maxine graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa with a teaching degree in elementary education and taught school in Ben Franklin Country School near Fremont, Eddyville Elementary School in Eddyville, and Eisenhower Elementary School in Ottumwa. In 1964, she began working as a realtor in Ottumwa at Wapello Realty retiring in 1996 after 32 years.

In 1997 Maxine moved to Florida and was very active in the Baptist Church there. She was also very active in community activities at Tahitian Gardens in Holiday, Florida, where she made her home for 18 years. She enjoyed writing and at age 88, she wrote a novel entitled “Such As I Have”, she also had written 3 cookbooks.

Maxine is survived by two sisters: LaOra (& Ken) Miles of Nokomis, Florida, and Elnora Norris of Fremont; a brother: George (& Connie) Steele of Holiday, Florida and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers: David and LaVerne Steele; and two sisters: LaRue Knowler and Mary Ellen Steele.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Otto Hayes and Rev. Linzy Collins officiating.
Burial will be at Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Visitation will begin Monday after 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday evening from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Maxine Strunk Memorial Fund in care of the Fremont Funeral Chapel. Donations in her name will be used to benefit the Fremont Community. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation: opens after 1:00 p.m. with the family present from 5 – 7 p.m. August 13, 2012 at Fremont Funeral Chapel
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. August 14, 2012 at Fremont Funeral Chapel
Interment: Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery
