Marx Honored as Performer of the Week

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College guard Julian Marx has been named the Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week.

Marx continued his impressive season while leading Grinnell to two wins in the past week, boosting the Pioneers to 4-0 in the MWC and 7-2 overall. The sharp-shooter drained 9-of-17 tries from three-point land and had 27 points as the Pioneers raced past Cornell College 119-99. He followed that with a 30-point performance, making 8-of-18 from long range, as Grinnell defeated Lawrence University 133-125. Marx ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with 29.5 points per game and is the leader in three-pointers with 6.75 an outing.

Notable Performances
D.J. DeValk led St. Norbert College to a pair of MWC wins this past week in a 76-45 win over Lawrence University and a 66-58 triumph at Cornell College. DeValk scored 12 points with four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 25 minutes against Lawrence. DeValk then had 20 points, six assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes in the win over Cornell, the Green Knights’ 68th straight against a MWC foe.

Early foul trouble against Knox College held Lamont Mitchell scoreless, totaling just eight minutes in the first half. In the second, Mitchell led the charge as he ignited the Monmouth College offense. A deep three-pointer put an end to a Prairie Fire run and catapulted the Scots’ to a 14-3 rally. Mitchell continued to pour it on down the stretch, finishing with a game-high 23 points and 3 steals.

In two games last week, Mason Speer averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals for Illinois College. The Blueboys came back to tie Lake Forest College late in the contest before falling, 70-67. IC came back to defeat Robert Morris University-Springfield, 98-75, on Saturday.
Isaac Masters helped Ripon College to wins in both of their games last week, improving the Red Hawks’ season record to 6-0 for the first time in 14 years. Masters averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Masters also shot 56 percent (9-of-16) from the field, while making all three of his three-pointers and all four of his free throws.

Eric Porter poured in 20 points to help lead Lake Forest to a 70-67 victory at Illinois College on Wednesday. He knocked down four of eight attempts from three-point range and shot 6-for-11 overall from the field in the contest. Porter also grabbed six rebounds and added a pair of steals on the night.
