Mark Geier
Overland Park, Kansas. Mark Geier, 64, of Overland Park, Kansas, and formerly of Burlington and Oskaloosa, died Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born January 28, 1947, at Chicago, Illinois, the son of Marcus and Geraldine Waskow Geier. He graduated from the Arlington Heights High School with the class of 1964. He furthered his education at William Penn College and earned his degree from there in 1968. He was also a graduate of Banking from Wisconsin University. On December 22, 1968, he was united in marriage to Linda McKain at Oskaloosa. He spent the majority of his working life in Banking, banks he worked in include: Wenona Bank, Rock Island Bank, Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Oskaloosa, and Piper Jaffray. He retired as Marketing Director at US Bank in Burlington. He was a lifelong member of the Masons and he was a Shriner. He also belonged to the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Board of Directors at the Burlington Art Center, and was a member of Rotary. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, spiritual activities, following current events especially in the world of finance and rooting for the Chicago Bears. He loved to travel, especially take cruises and visit multiple destinations.
His family includes his wife Linda Geier of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Burlington; a daughter and her husband: Kristin and Alec Nichols of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren: Mason, Ava and Lila Nichols; a brother: Kurt Geier of Huntley, Illinois; 2 brothers-in-law: Jack and Arlene McKain of What Cheer and Don Richter of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law: Jim and Helen McKain; and a sister Jeannie Richter.
Funeral services for Mark Geier will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Indianapolis Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 6 – 8 pm to greet friends and relatives.
