Marjorie “Margie” Lou Briles, age 90, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, at her home, Benton Place Apartments, in Albia where she spent 32 years and developed many close friendships. Margie was born on December 21, 1931, to Walter and Grace (Sage) Cozad the Albia Hospital.

Margie grew up and attended school in Ottumwa.

Margie married Richard Briles on March 7, 1948, in Ottumwa and to this union, a son Jack was born. Margie and Richard shared 38 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 18, 1986.

Margie was a homemaker and babysat for her family members.

When Margie was younger, she enjoyed quilting. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and loved walking around town, visiting with others. Above all else, Margie enjoyed spending time with her family.

Margie is survived by her grandchildren, Mindy McBride and Michael Briles; a sister, Geraldine Speilman; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews, including a special great niece, Sarah Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her son, Jack Briles; her parents, Walter and Grace Cozad; siblings: Edna Fanta, Martha (& Bill) Malone, Darlene “Eunice” Mangello, Betty Reno, Lester Cozad, James Cozad, Roy Cozad, Billy Cozad, Louise Shipman, Floyd Cozad, Donald “Cozy” Cozad, and Bernice, Barbara, and Marcella in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Margie’s family present throughout to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Chris Harris officiating.

Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.

A memorial has been established to Benton Place Apartments in Albia.
