Oskaloosa, Iowa – After reading many parade questionnaires with many great ideas, a decision has been made for the December 5, 2013 Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade. The parade will again be held one night only and the theme will be “Candy Cane Christmas”. The committee envisions floats and entries with candy, gumball machines, candy canes, red & white creations, Candyland characters, sweets, gingerbread houses, lollipops, and more.

The Friday night Spectacular Tree Lighting event was a hit in 2012 with the tree lighting, float displays, awards, music, photos with Santa and so forth. Similar activities will be planned for Fri., Dec. 6, 2013, in a “Carols, Candles & Cocoa” event to be held in the downtown Oskaloosa Square.

So get those visions of sugar plums dancing in your heads! Start creating your parade entries now. The competition remains as before with judging on Thursday evening. You may optionally bring the entry downtown for Friday’s activities for an “up-close” look.

As before many events are held throughout Oskaloosa in conjunction with the Lighted Parade. As you begin plans for related activities, please contact the OACDG to have these events placed in the Holiday Happenings brochure. Many volunteers are needed to make the event a success. If you would like to be a part of the planning contact the Main Street office of the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group at 641-672-2591 or email to oskycofc@oacdg.org. Be a part of Iowa’s #1 Holiday Event.
