Mahaska Health Partnership Welcomes new Family Practice Provider

Dr. Leigh Gilburn, Family Practice with Obstetrics

MAHASKA COUNTY – The Mahaska Health Partnership Birthing Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Leigh Gilburn, Family Practice with Obstetrics, to the MHP Medical Staff.

Dr. Gilburn brings more than 18 years of experience delivering babies to MHP, spending the past 12 working in the Bush of Alaska. “I am excited to build a primary care practice in a community like Oskaloosa where I’ll be able to form long-lasting relationships with my patients,” Dr. Gilburn shared.

After receiving her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Graceland College, Dr. Gilburn worked in an intensive care open heart unit for five years. “I enjoyed being a nurse and I think that foundation gives me a practical approach to healthcare,” Dr. Gilburn explained. “However, I always planned to go to medical school and chose family practice because I wanted to have an impact on people living healthy.”

Dr. Gilburn received her medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. “My mother still lives in Kansas City, so Oskaloosa is a good central location to be near relatives,” Dr. Gilburn said. “My family and I are very impressed with the community and looking forward to meeting new people.”

Dr. Gilburn joins OB/GYN Specialist Dr. Jeffrey Fowler and Family Practice Drs. Shawn Richmond, Ed Hirl and Stephen Mineart in providing obstetrical care at the MHP Birthing Center. “I’m very excited to partner with the obstetrics physicians at MHP,” Dr. Gilburn said. “There are a lot of young families in the community so I’m happy to help extend the availability of obstetrical care.”

“We have been blessed with the addition of two outstanding obstetrical providers in the past six months,” MHP Birthing Center Director Chyann Vroegh said. “The community is very fortunate to have such a talented group of physicians available to care for their obstetric needs, right here at home.”

Dr. Gilburn will begin seeing patients at MHP Specialty Services Monday, Oct. 22. To make an appointment, call 641-672-3360.
