Mahaska County Y Dolphins Prepare for Remainder of Season
A participant at the Mahaska County YMCA Dolphins Swim Team event recently held in Oskaloosa.
Oskaloosa, January 16, 2013 – The Mahaska County YMCA Dolphins Swim Team played host to its final home swim meet of the year on Saturday, January 12, with the Penguins from Newton and the Blue Wave from Marshalltown attending. The meet was contested by 122 swimmers, many competing in both individual and relay events throughout the day. With a 10 am start time at the YMCA, the action was fast and furious until the final relay teams hit the touchpads just before 3pm.
This year’s home event dates were December 1 hosting Centerville, Ottumwa, Marion and Creston; December 15 hosting Riverfront from Des Moines; and the final meet on January 12 with Newton and Marshalltown. All three events saw great attendance from local swimmers, their families, and visiting teams. Coach Grant Bolibaugh commented, “This season has been my first back on the Dolphins Swim Team coaching staff in a number of years, and I have been impressed by the local involvement in the program from parents and volunteers stepping up to help host home swim meets, to the number of Dolphin swimmers on the Swim Team and the time and effort they have put into the season thus far.”
The final stretch of the Dolphin’s meet schedule consists of a January 19 trip to Waukee, a January 26 trip to Centerville, a visit to Riverfront in Des Moines on February 2, and then on to Sectionals, State, and Regionals the weekends of February 9, March 2, and March 30, respectively. The Dolphins Swim Team would like to thank all the parents, fans, and supporters of the program who have dedicated their time and efforts to making this season a success, and they look forward to seeing everyone throughout the final leg of the 2012-2013 season.
