Mahaska County Supervisors For September 19, 2011

Mahaska County Supervisors discuss different subjects during the Supervisor Committee Reports

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday in the Supervisors Meeting Room. The Supervisors first approved their agenda and then went on to approve minutes for the September 6th and 16th minutes.

They then heard the sanitarian report from Eric Dursky who reported that there were 35 new family septic systems with an additional 4 planned for the year. Dursky is also looking into being certified to inspect septic pump trucks as that may help bring in extra revenue for the county.

Miranda Johnson of MCARD presented to the board her monthly report highlighting her work with Indian Hills and the Opportunity Square Project. She also updated the board on some of the progress with the Highway 63 Coalition. Miranda also mentioned that the USDA is cutting loans, and that may hurt future projects in the area.

Dave Sedivec with Mahaska County Conservation said that Labor Day was the second largest crowd for them just behind Memorial Day, and that he was happy to see many younger families utilizing the facilities to their nearly full extent.

Sedivec also mentioned that they are in danger of losing a grant from the DNR for the lake at White Oak if the Corp of Engineers don’t quickly approve the needed permits.

The Supervisors also approved Phase 1 (Propose and Needs) of the Highway 63 Transportation Study. They will also be advertising for a new Road Maintenance Supervisor at Secondary Roads with personnel changes taking place.

A public hearing was held on the new Voting Precinct Ordinance (2nd Reading) and the Supervisors voted to waive the 3rd reading so the new map could be submitted to the stated before the October 1 deadline.
