Local youth rake leaves for residents
Oskaloosa, Iowa- This past Saturday, a group of approximently 12 students gathered to rake leaves for local residents. The group of students were teens from the First Christian Church youth group. The youth group rakes leaves for different people around the community each year as part of an annual event. This year, the group raked 18 houses, an increase from last year.
According to one student participating, the church sent out inquires to different homeowners regarding the leaf raking, and those who wanted their leaves raked responded back to the church. The group donated their time throughout the day and did not charge home owners.
“I come to leaf raking because it’s an excellent opportunity to get the church and the community involved in outreach and help out those who are less fortunate than us as we get into this Christmas season,” said Senior Lincoln Morris. “It’s all about service,” Morris further said.
Kathy Rothfus, Children and Youth Director at First Christian Church, had this to say the leaf raking was a “Fun, fellowship opportunity for our youth group.” Rothfus said that they try to have opportunities like this for the youth group each month. “Every month, there’s an opportunity for them to do something that’s both fun, fellowship, and service related,” Rothfus said.
