Local Residents “Locked Up” For Jerry’s Kids© and MDA Of Central Iowa

Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson (near wall) says he was 'framed' as he works the phone attempting to raise enough 'bail'

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The meeting room at Pizza Ranch in downtown Oskaloosa was full of ringing phones and desperate pleas for “bail” on Thursday.

Jamey Robinson was one of many who had volunteered to be “locked up” to help raise money. The money raised Thursday will help a kid go to camp, at a cost of $800.00 each. The goal for today was “the whole $800,” Robinson said, and at the point of talking with me, he had raised $255.00 towards that goal.

He continued to work his cell phone texting everyone he knew, when all of a sudden, “oop, just made another $25.00.” The work continued from then on to raise the funds needed to post his “bail”.

All funds raised today will help kids aged 6 to 17 attend camp one week during the summer. The funds also help to pay for flu shots, because those with muscular dystrophy don’t fight off the flu as well as others do. Funds also help with the Equipment Loan Closet. The Equipment Loan Closet helps those who have recently been diagnosed with MD get what they need so they don’t have to get all the equipment right away. The funds also help to pay for doctor visits, where they see five different specialists at one stop so they don’t have to make it to various places and different times.

The goal set for today’s fund raiser was $1,100.00. One person had already “bonded” out, and she was able to raise over $1,000.00 at that point towards the goal. The money raised online for the event was over $4,500.00, putting the group well ahead of its’ set goal.
