Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter is moving nearer to their ground breaking, and Mahaska Drug, in Oskaloosa, raised $10,000 to honor Mason DenHartog.

“Mason was an animal lover and regularly volunteered his time at the shelter. To honor his memory, we decided to split the donation to cover several different items that will be in the new shelter”, says Lindsey Sime, Director of Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

Those spaces within the new shelter in honor of Mason will be three large dog runs in the adoptable dog area, two small dog habitats in the small dog adoption area, and two cat colony habitats in the adoptable cat area.

“This was done because we wanted this donation to help both cats and dogs, as opposed to just cats or just dogs. This donation will certainly go far in helping the shelter help many homeless animals”, said Sime in closing.
