PELLA — The awards keep coming for Central College women’s soccer defender Liz Daniels (senior, Oconomowoc, Wis.). The team co-captain was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Women’s College Division Scholar All-North/Central Region third team Wednesday.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team. Daniels is majoring in biochemistry and holds a 3.72 GPA. The team included players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools.
The Dutch defender helped Central set season records for most shutouts (12), most consecutive shutouts (four), fewest goals allowed (12) and fewest shots allowed (11.7 per game) in 2014. She also scored three goals for the Dutch including the game-winner in a 1-0 overtime victory at Simpson Oct. 28.
The four-year letterwinner was both a Capital One Division III Academic All-District and NSCAA/Continental Tire All-North Region third team selection as well as a member of the all-Iowa Conference first team.
Daniels was one of four conference players on the team, joining Lauren Waddell and Megan Siepler of Dubuque and Erin Wilson of Luther.
Central finished the season 11-4-4 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play. The Dutch were second in the conference standings and advanced to the conference tournament championship.
