Lila McDonough-Andersen, age 96, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at her home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born on September 6, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Walter H. and Lydia L. (Thoms) Hoyer.

Lila attended Mason City High School and graduated with the Class of 1943.

In March, 1952, Lila was united in marriage to Claude McDonough. To this union five children were born, Pam, Peggy, Charles, Michael and Sarah. They divorced several years later.

On February 14, 1974, Lila was united in marriage to Les Andersen.

Lila began working at Iowa Southern Utilities in Ottumwa before becoming the manager at the World of Fabrics store in Oskaloosa and later took a job working for Ken Iburg at the hotel in Oskaloosa. She eventually moved down to Texas and worked with Les as secretary for his construction business. They also owned and operated a fishing charter in South Padre Island.

Lila attended the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa and also the Faith Community Church in Eddyville. Lila was an amazing cook and a gifted seamstress. She was always keeping herself busy with crafting, arts and had an eye for design. Lila volunteered for several years at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. She also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and traveling. She never knew a stranger and enjoyed visiting and helping others whenever she could. Lila had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dog, Willy. Above all else, she loved her family and spending time with them.

Lila is survived by her children, Pam Roberts-Robus of Oskaloosa; Peggy (& Wayne) Hook of Cedar Falls, Charles (& Linda) McDonough of Oskaloosa, Michael (& Sandi) McDonough of Hiawatha and Sarah Francis of Oskaloosa; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brenda Hook and Brian McDonough; a sister, Evelyn Padgett; and her ex-husband, Les Andersen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Open visitation will begin Tuesday, March 29, after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel until 5:00 p.m. with no family present.
Visitation with family present will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
