I’ll be the first to admit, being a Republican, it was a bad night for me on Election night but the worst thing about it was when other Republicans bought into this narrative that we need to compromise some of our beliefs to “win” elections. I understand the election was 7 months ago and that most of the talk about compromising has past but we need realize that we are still relevant. I believe the reason why we lost was not because of our message but our messaging.

We let the Democrats get ahead of his and define our top candidate, Mitt Romney, has an old, white, rich guy who didn’t care about anybody but the rich. This made the rest of the Republican Party, and their candidates look the same way. We did a horrible job of fighting back against that, and we could not communicate our message of economic freedom, smaller government, and personal responsibility. These ideas are still relevant, and we must develop a new way of communicating it. We must expose the idea of our opponents on the left for what it is. Government Dependency is all they have. The Republican Party is the party of personal liberty, responsibility, and opportunity.

We believe that if you are willing to commit to it, and work hard towards your American dream, you can accomplish anything and that government should not have to regulate every step, or try to stop you from accomplishing it. We believe that each and every citizen has the ability to accomplish something great in life. We believe in freedom, and liberty. We believe each and every citizen has the Right to Life. We believe that if you work hard for your money you deserve to keep more of it. We believe that government should have to run its budget just like the ordinary family, within its means. We believe that if you have a business, that YOU DID BUILD THAT. We believe in you, we believe in America, and we always believe that no matter what challenges we face, as Americans our greatest days are still ahead.

These things are still relevant, and I believe that because of the recent scandals from the Obama administration. The Department of Justice seizing phone records from news agencies, and the IRS targeting conservative groups shows two things. The first thing it shows is that this is Obama’s big government run amuck. If it is true and President Obama had no idea, and that Attorney General Eric Holder had no idea that the DOJ was seizing phone records, than it goes to show that the government has become so big they don’t even know what is going on anymore. And if it is true that no one knew about the IRS targeting conservative groups like the Tea Party, it again shows that the government is too big. The second thing it shows it a lack of leadership from President Obama. The President has fired no one since these scandals have come out. Nothing has really changed. He claims no one has told him, so why don’t you do something about that then? Eric Holder is still in charge of the DOJ, the head of the IRS resigned on his own, and the on the Benghazi scandal, no one has been fired! None of these scandals are being talked about for political purposes; they are being talked about because it is a breach of trust between the government, and the American people.

The next election is only 17 months away, and now is the time to vet candidates who will return responsibility and accountability to our government. We have to defeat U.S. Representative Dave Loebsack because we know he does not represent us, he represents the big government cronies like Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama. We must defeat Bruce Braley for the U.S. Senate, because he is just as liberal and as extreme as President Obama, and Harry Reid. These men our part of the problem, and we need to fix that. We must reapply the principles of freedom and liberty that founded our country. Republicans must realize that is what we believe in, and that we are still relevant.

Sincerely,

Austin Harris
