Letter To The Editor: Greatly Disappointed In How This Has All Gone About

I recently attended the informational meeting at the Pella Community Center. The purpose of this meeting was to inform the public about the proposed regional airport. We listened to a short presentation where they filled us in on what was going on and some of their timelines for the project. We were then to disperse to a couple of rooms where we could ask questions and hopefully get some answers. Several in the audience asked if we could all stay in one room so all could hear the questions and and answers but we were refused that privilege. So we all headed to one room and we started to pack everyone in. Eventually we were told we had to leave and that only so many could be in the room at the same time. If you were lucky you got your question answered and many did not. Many of us were left with more questions than answers and it was clear from well over four hundred people that they wanted it brought to a vote because they were greatly disappointed in how this has all gone about. Many that came were opposed to the airport just like me. We feel the peoples voice is not being heard and if it is it is falling on deaf ears. I’m concerned that the will of the people is not being done. I am also concerned about how this will impact the town of Leighton. If this airport gets built and you land your class c jet on the runway you still have to drive ten minutes either way for food and lodging. How does that benefit Leighton? All we ask is for the airport board to listen to us and hear our concerns and not be so closed minded to what the people have to say.
