Larry Wilson, Jr., 51, of Barnes City (previously Oskaloosa) died Friday, January 17, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Larry was born February 2, 1962, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Larry and Dixie O’Brien Wilson, Sr. He attended school in Oskaloosa.
In July of 1984, he was united in marriage to Verda Elder at Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born: Aaron, Derric and Ashley. The two of them later divorced.
Larry worked various jobs throughout his life including, semi driver, cook, furniture mover, and construction. He was currently working for Bi-State Construction out of Burlington.
Larry delighted in spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing video games on the computer and X-Box. He also enjoyed playing disc golf, of which he was one of the individuals that helped set up the disc golf course at Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa. He also hosted and arranged for many disc golf tournaments.
In October of 2012, Larry reconnected with an old friend named Mary Hartman. This time the two of them fell in love and Larry, for the first time in a long time, found peace and was truly happy.
As a final act of kindness and generosity, Larry was an organ donor.
His family includes his three children: Aaron Wilson of Oskaloosa, Derric (& Alayna) Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ashley Wilson of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Airalhynn, Shelby, Kehtyn, Eastynn, and Emmalynn; his fiancée: Mary Hartman, and her family of Barnes City; his mother, Dixie (and Paul) Mooney of Ottumwa; his father, Larry (and Donna) Wilson, Sr. of Batavia; a sister, Denise (and David) Beyer of Pella; his grandmother, Clara Swihart of Batavia; 3 nephews; and a host of other family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bob and Wilma O’Brien.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 5 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
As was Larry’s wish his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3 p.m. until service time at 5.
