Lady Statesmen Succumbs to AIB in Overtime

Des Moines–The William Penn women’s soccer team came up short Tuesday night, dropping a 1-0 overtime decision to AIB in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.

The Lady Statesmen (1-11, 0-3 MCC) sent 11 shots in the direction of Eagle goalkeeper Samantha Noffke (seven on goal), but failed to find the back of the netting.

Neither team scored in the first 90 minutes, but late in the first overtime, AIB (1-9, 1-2 MCC) finally broke the scoreless tie on a goal by Jade Sailsman.

Kate Thayer (Fr., East Fremantle, Australia, Physical Education) and Emmanuella Meneide (Jr., Turks and Caicos, Biology) led the offense with three shots. Amber Klootwyk (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management/Education) tallied eight saves on the afternoon.

Next: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Saturday to host St. Ambrose in MCC play at 5 p.m.
