Lady Statesmen Linksters Picked Second in League‏

William Penn Women’s Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s golf team has made great strides in a short time, evidenced by an impressive position in the 2012-2013 Midwest Collegiate Conference women’s golf coaches’ poll which was released today.

The navy and gold, who failed to even sponsor a team three years ago, are listed as the presumptive runner-up for next spring. William Penn was fourth at this past spring’s Championships, but received 25 points and one first-place vote in this year’s poll to earn second out of seven squads.

Defending champion Grand View received top honors with 27 points and the other three first-place votes. Viterbo tallied 20 points to match its bronze from last spring.

Mount Mercy (15), St. Ambrose (12), AIB (8), and Clarke (6) round out the poll.

William Penn opens its fall campaign by traveling to Marion on August 31 and September 1 for the Mount Mercy Invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
