Lady Statesmen End Conference Slate with 4-0 Loss to Grand View

William Penn Women’s Athletics

Des Moines–The William Penn women’s soccer team closed out its Midwest Collegiate Conference regular season Saturday night with a 4-0 loss to Grand View.

The Lady Statesmen (2-15, 0-6 MCC), who were outshot 34-0, will now have to travel back to Des Moines next weekend to face the #2 seed Vikings (9-7-1, 5-1 MCC) next Saturday in the first round of the MCC Tournament (1 p.m. start).

Grand View did not get on the board until the 44:07 mark. The home squad then tacked on three more goals after intermission.

Starting goalkeeper Laura Gentry (Jr., Fruitland, Idaho, Physical Education) posted nine saves in the loss, while Amber Klootwyk (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management/Education) added five saves off the bench.

“I am delighted by the effort shown by this group,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “We have put three good performances together now, and although we have not gotten the desired results, the blueprint has been laid out. We are understanding how to play and how to move this program forward. We made life very difficult for them and did not give them anything easy.”

Next: William Penn closes out the regular season Tuesday by hosting Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in non-conference play at 5 p.m.
