Juvenile Killed In Mahaska County Crash

On Thursday, August 17th, 2023, at approximately 7:20 pm, members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the intersection of 270th Street and Teller Avenue in rural Mahaska County, in reference to an automobile accident.
Upon Deputies’ arrival, it was discovered that an all-terrain vehicle (4-wheeler) driven by a 19-year-old male had collided with an off-road utility vehicle (side-by-side) driven by a 16-year-old female. This collision occurred don’t he roadway of 270th Street. There were two 16-year-old passengers on the side-by-side, in addition to the driver.
The collision of these two vehicles caused the off-road vehicle to overturn, ejecting a 16-year-old male. The off-road vehicle then overturned onto the youth. Lifesaving measures were taken at the scene of the accident, however, the 16-year-old male passed away from his injuries. This subject was declared dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in their investigation by members of the Cedar Township Fire and Rescue, the Iowa State Patrol, the Mahaska County Ambulance Service and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The investigation into this accident is continuing.
