Jean McMeekin
Montezuma. Jean E. McMeekin, 88 of Montezuma passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be held in the Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Montezuma First Presbyterian Church. Jean Elizabeth McMeekin, daughter of John William and Edna (Rhoads) McMeekin was born on May 10, 1922 near Montezuma. After Jean’s mother died when she was nine months old, Jean and her father went to live with her aunt, Ellen Mary Bruggen. After Ellen Mary passed away, they lived with her cousins, Milo and Sadie (Bruggen) Phillips. Jean attended Montezuma High School. Jean resided at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was very active in various activities: bingo, dominos and church activities. Jean was a kind hearted lady and would greet everyone with a smile. She absolutely loved the Chicago Cubs. Jean was a member of the Montezuma First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women.
She is survived by her nephew, Tom (Sharon) McMeekin of Montezuma, extended family of various cousins in Missouri and Texas, several caretakers, the staff at the Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and many friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna McMeekin; her brother, Hugh McMeekin; her aunt and uncle, William and Ellen Mary Bruggen; and cousins, Milo “Mike” and Sadie Phillips.
