James Menninga

James Duane Menninga, 56, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, August 13, 2012, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born Friday, March 2, 1956, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Patricia Slycord Menninga. Following school he worked for a time at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella and Oskaloosa Produce. He was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at an early age which prevented him from working. He loved collecting wolf pictures and figurines, and watching old movies.

James’ family includes his brother: Ron (& Pearl) Menninga of Pella; a half sister: Lenora (& Will) Shepard of Liberty, Missouri; two step sisters: Jeanne Ryun and Deb (& John) Kelly; a step brother: Bob Ryun; his step mother: Harriet Menninga of Leighton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother and sister-in-law: Lonnie and Debra Menninga; his maternal grandparents: James (& Lela) Slycord; his paternal grandparents: Yella (& Sarah) Menninga; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
