Individual With Warrants Taken Into Custody After Tense Standoff
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Police Department spotted an individual meeting the description of an individual wanted by Marion County on Tuesday evening.
The officers then worked to identify the suspect, 60-year-old Danny Lee Shaffer, who was wanted on domestic abuse assault/harassment and violation of a no-contact order.
Shaffer was located at a home in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue East, which was not Shaffer’s residence.
Oskaloosa officers then tried to make contact with Shaffer at the residence, but he wouldn’t come to the door.
Oskaloosa Police say that Shaffer had made statements that he wasn’t going back to prison.
Besides the Oskaloosa Police Department, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and MINE Task Force then set up a perimeter around the house.
The Iowa State Patrol tried to engage Shaffer by phone, calling him approximately 30 times. They also used their loudspeaker, encouraging the suspect to give up.
The Iowa State Patrol deployed a flash-bang device outside of the residence to encourage a quick resolution to the situation.
Eventually, a relative that lives at the address made their way out of the residence, while Shaffer was taken into custody at 10:40 pm on October 29th, 2019.
Shaffer is being held in the Marion County jail as of Wednesday morning.
No injuries are reported as a result of the situation.
