A select group of our Indians qualified to run in this past weekend’s Drake Relays. Running next to middle school, high school, college, university, and professional athletes is a real once in a lifetime experience, and our Indians made the most of it!

On Friday morning Casey Hill competed in the all-classes high school discus competition, finishing 20th with a throw of 142′ 5″. Next up was the Distance Medley relay team of Aaron Blom, Casey Hill, Brayden VanKampen, and Carter Huyser. This group did nothing less than break an Oskaloosa record dating back to 1936! Not only did they break that long-standing record, but also medaled earning 6th place overall with a time of 3:34.02. Carter Huyser was only half way through his day at this point. Next up for Carter was a very elite 400. Only 2 heats, that’s 16 of the best of Iowa’s best. Carter did not disappoint, and he came from the slower heat to earn a 5th place medal in 50.03.

The Friday evening session wrapped up with our 4×400 team running another school record time of 3:35.25. The team of Brayden VanKampen, Iszac Schultz, Aaron Blom, and Carter Huyser broke the old record in a gutsy race by all involved.

Saturday the 4×100 team of Aaron Blom, Reed Brown, Brayden VanKampen, and Casey Hill were very competitive in their heat out of lane 7, earning 3rd in the heat in 45.14.

Our young men are back n action Tuesday, along with our ladies, at the Little Hawkeye Conf. meet in Newton.

If you get a chance, congratulate our young men on a great weekend as we look forward to a strong finish.
