High Winds Cause Power Outages

The wind caused some tree damage in the area over the weekend. This tree came crashing down on power lines on Saturday.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Winds pounded the Oskaloosa area over the weekend, causing some tree damage, resulting in power outages as the trees tangled up lines.
On Saturday, one large tree fell at the intersection of South 9th Street and 2nd Avenue East, where it caused less than a dozen outages, but extensive damage to the power poles in the area.
Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to the scene, while MidAmerican Energy crews worked to restore power to impacted residents.
Wind gusts on Saturday reached as high as 60mph according to the National Weather Service report for the area. Sunday saw gusts reaching as high as 47 mph.
A cold front made its way through the area on Sunday evening, cooling things back to a more seasonal level, with a high on Monday being 25 degrees cooler than on Sunday.
The next chances for rain will come in the form of showers and isolated thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon into Thursday, with the best chances arriving late Tuesday.
