Henrietta Van Den Heuvel
Oskaloosa. Henrietta Van Den Heuvel, 98, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born October 27, 1912, at Leighton, Iowa, the daughter of Bart and Elizabeth DeJong Groenendyk. She attended elementary school in Leighton, and then Central Academy in Pella, Iowa. On October 17, 1934, she was united in marriage to Pete Vos at Leighton. Following their marriage, they made their home in Leighton. In 1944 they moved to a farm near Oskaloosa where she and Pete lived and farmed until retiring and moving into Oskaloosa in 1972. On October 5, 1979, Pete passed away. Four sons were born to Henrietta and Pete: Kenneth, Marion, Stanley, and Elmer. On January 14, 1984 she was united in marriage to John Van Den Heuvel. They continued to live in Oskaloosa and after John’s death in 2002, Henrietta moved to Fair Haven in Pella. She became a resident of the Oskaloosa Care Center in March of 2009. She made her profession of faith in the Leighton Christian Reformed Church and at the time of her passing was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Henrietta’s faith and actions were an inspiration to all who know her, her love for her Savior was evident in her life. She deeply treasured her children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren as well as her many friends.
Henrietta is survived by three sons and their wives: Kenneth and Claude-Marie Vos of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Marion and Dorothy Vos of Oskaloosa, and Elmer and Ruth Vos of New Sharon; 13 grandchildren: Julie (& Jeff) Yonker, Ann (& Jeff) Ostrander, Timothy (& Barbara Baldwin, Peter (& Michelle) Baldwin, Claire-Lise (& Martin) Godel, Mary (& Gary) De Young, Mark Vos, Carol (& Grant) Gasson, Karen (& Randy) Faber, Rich (& Cindy) Vos, Todd (& Susan) Vos, David (& Tammy) Vos, and Diane Vos; 36 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister: Bess Tolsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a step son and his wife: Jerome and Marion Van Den Heuvel of Cedar; two step daughters and their husbands: Alta and Jack Van Doeselaar of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Yvonne and Larry Williams of Riverside, California; seven step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; a step great great granddaughter.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Stanley Vos; a daughter in law: Irene Vos; a grandson: Peter Vos; a great grandson: Christopher De Young; five sisters: Gertie Steenhoek, Charlotte deWaal Malefyt, Marie Neuwendorp, Bertha DeJong, and Carrie Van Der Wal.
Visitation for Henrietta Vos Van Den Heuvel will be held Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Bates Funeral Chapel after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 — 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Private family burial will be Saturday. A Memorial Service will be held in Oskaloosa at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School.
