Henrietta Longcor Larson
November 25, 1929 – September 9, 2023
Eddyville, Iowa | Age 93
Henrietta Marlene Longcor Larson, longtime resident of Eddyville, Iowa, most recently of West Des Moines, Iowa, entered her heavenly rest on September 9, 2023, at the age of 93. Born in Coalfield, Iowa, on November 25, 1929, to Marion Longcor and Faye Smith.
Henrietta was a beacon of resilience and love throughout her life.
Henrietta began her education at the tender age of four in a one-room country schoolhouse. She graduated from Eddyville High School in 1947 and completed her nursing education at St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1950.
She was a devoted wife to her high school sweetheart, Billy D. Larson, with whom she was united in marriage on November 26, 1950, at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa, and who preceded her in death.
Henrietta spent much of her life in service to others in her role as a nurse, a profession she was dedicated to, having worked at several area hospitals and as the Director of Nursing at Albia Manor before her retirement.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her work and into her hobbies; she was an avid bird watcher, particularly of hummingbirds, and she found joy in reading and gardening. However, Henrietta’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved dearly. Throughout her life, she saw the ups and downs for what they were, often reminding us all that “this too shall pass.”
She was a valued member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church and was respected and loved by her community.
Henrietta is survived by her loving children, Rick Larson (Melanie) and Lori Larson; her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Miller (Gerry), Jodi Smith (Martin), Joel Fortney (China); as well as 12 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Longcor and Faye Smith, and her devoted husband, Billy D. Larson.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2023 in Highland Cemetery with Pastor Dan Visser officiating.
Visitation will also be on Monday from 10-11:15 a.m., at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.
In memory of Henrietta, we invite those who knew her to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page. A memorial is not about death, but a testament to a life well lived. Let us celebrate Henrietta’s wonderful life together.
In lieu of flowers, Henrietta asked that we consider memorial donations to the Eddyville Methodist Church or the Eddyville Public Library.
