Harold passed away Tuesday evening, August 7, 2012, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 1 day.
Harold I. Scott, son of John and Rebecca Ver Ploeg Scott, was born January 6, 1919 in Oskaloosa. The family lived on a farm in Jefferson Township where Harold and his siblings attended Star School. Harold learned farming at a young age, where many hands were needed to feed the family of nine children. After his education, Harold helped his father on the family farm. He married Phyllis Arlene Grubb, December 14, 1941, in Lancaster, MO. He and Phyllis farmed in Jefferson and West Des Moines Townships over the years. Harold moved into Oskaloosa in 2006, but continued to help his son with their farming operations until recently. Harold’s passion was farming, but he also took the time to enjoy hunting, fishing and talking on his C.B. radio.
Harold’s family includes his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sone Scott of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Cathy and Curt Roozeboom of New Sharon, Peggy and Roger Hoyt of Scranton, Iowa, Georgia and Larry Ruggles of Oskaloosa, Rob and Stacey Scott of Oskaloosa, Emily Scott of Iowa Falls, Melissa and Brandon Hunt of Oskaloosa, and David Wilke and his fiancé Audrianna Glassford of Oskaloosa; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Virginia Scott of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis on January 25, 2002; a daughter, Judy Chamra; four brothers: Oren, John, Herman, and Homer Scott, and four sisters: Fern Littlejohn, LaVonne Brown, Florence Sloan and Marie Littlejohn.
Memorials may be made to the Serenity House.
Visitation: will begin at 10:30, Thursday morning, August 09, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Friday morning, August 10, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Omundson of the First Christian Church officiating.
Interment: Coal Creek Cemetery in Jefferson Township, Mahaska County, Iowa.
