Hames Collects First-Ever Heart Award

Oskaloosa–Alyssa Hames (Jr., Ackley, Iowa, Psychology) used a career outing to help her team break a long losing streak, and for that she earned Heart of America Athletic Conference WinWon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week laurels Monday.

Hames won her first career honor after leading William Penn to its first victories in weeks.

The junior started last week with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds against Central Methodist last Wednesday. She was 7-for-14 from the floor, made three free throws, and also tallied one assist in the loss.

Last Saturday, Hames scored a career-high 27 points alongside 12 rebounds for another double-double as the Statesmen defeated Baker. She finished 8-for-10 from the field, including a 4-for-5 showing from behind the arc, and made seven of her nine free throws. Hames also recorded three assists and one block.

For the year, Hames leads WPU in both scoring (10.8 per game) and rebounding (8.7), while shooting 44.9% from the floor (30.8% 3-PT) and 71.6% from the free-throw line. The junior has also produced 37 assists, 16 steals, and five blocks.

The award is the second of the year for WPU.
