Gysbert Braaksma
Montezuma. Gysbert “Bud” Braaksma, 82 of Montezuma, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held privately at a later date. Interment will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Gysbert Braaksma was born April 16, 1929 in Lynnville, Iowa the son of John and Carrie Van Wyk Braaksma. He attended country school near Lynnville. On December 26, 1949 Gysbert was united in marriage to Dorothy Louise Tish. Bud farmed from 1949 to 1958. He then began his career of 31 years with Miracle Recreation. Gysbert enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and traveling with his wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Louis and Dorman Wayne , a sister Viola Mae and a granddaughter Mandy Luanne Braaksma.
Bud is survived by his wife Dorothy, two daughters; Bonita Primley of Ladora and Wanda Braaksma of Montezuma; two sons: Dennis Braaksma of Montezuma and Kenton Braaksma of Runnells; three brothers: Robert Braaksma of New Sharon, Carroll “Butch” Braaksma of Marshalltown and Larry Braaksma of Newton; three sisters: Frances Enyart of Georgia, Gertrude Hites of Newton and Leona Nielsen of Chariton. His life was also blessed with five grand children: Jennifer (Nels) Halverson, Nicholas (Michelle) VandeBerg, Shaun Braaksma, Brandy (Scott) Wiefong and Amy Braaksma. Also surviving are eight great grand children: Brittany Halverson, Erin Halverson, J.T. Harland, Jenna Harland, Anne Harland, Ethan Papesh, Kasyn VandeBerg and Anistyn VandeBerg.
